Interaction

One of the areas that I want to look at while developing my project further is how people interact with the game. At the moment you can only control the game using a keyboard. I feel that this detracts from the experience and shatters the illusion of playing on the pages of the book.

I’ve been looking into ways that I could maybe use a control pad to play the game. The good thing about using a modern control pad is that it is wireless and people understand how they work. This would benefit me, as I wouldn’t have to have any instructions on how to control the game.

A control pad isn’t perfect for the overall idea of the project but it works better then the keyboard.

Levels in Sketchbook

Below is an example of how a level might be drawn in the sketchbook. The character will be projected onto these pages where it can then jump upon the various drawn platforms on the page.

Character Animations

Below are some of the animations that I have created for my character in the game. I have created a walk, jump and idle animation. Each of the animations should run when the character performs the corresponding movement in the game.

How it’s set up

This is how the game is currently set up. The book with the drawn levels is placed in front of the projector and a camera is then positioned so it is looking at the sketch book. Flash then analysis the webcam feed and works out where the platforms are and then projects the character onto the page.

Current State of the Game

This example shows the character being projected onto a page. All of the platforms are drawn in the sketchbook.
